Pro Fide Press was founded to publish fully referenced work in history, law and heraldry, and in theology and philosophy, for the scholar and the serious general reader alike. Books are slow to make, and much of what turns up along the way never finds a place in them: a charter that repays a second reading, a point of heraldic law that wants a fuller note, a received story that does not survive a look at the record. Notes and Essays is where such material will appear.
Readers will find short notes from work in progress, longer essays on questions raised by the press’s list, and the occasional review. That list begins with The Cross and the Crown, published on 2 November 2026, and continues with The Jacobite Noblesse, a two-volume study of the honours conferred by the exiled Stuarts, forthcoming in 2027. Some pieces will come from colleagues whose scholarship the press is glad to bring forward.
Each piece will give its sources, as the books do, so that a reader can test the argument against the evidence. Comments, corrections and proposals are welcome through the contact page.
