Pro Fide Press will publish The Jacobite Noblesse: Honours of the Exiled Stuarts, 1689–1807 by Craig Paterson in two volumes in 2027.
Volume I: The Peerage
An exhaustive register of the peerages conferred by the exiled Stuarts, from the creations of James VII and II in 1689 to the death of Henry, Cardinal Duke of York, in 1807. Every dignity is entered, English, Scottish, Irish and British, of every degree and with its subsidiary titles; confirmed, reputed and doubtful creations alike, each with a life of the grantee and the descent of the title to its extinction or to the present day. A long introductory essay asks what these honours were in law, and what they meant to the men and women who held them.
Volume II: The Baronetage, Knightage and Proofs of Gentility
The companion volume takes up the remaining honours of the exiled court: the baronetcies; the knighthoods, from knights bachelor to the Garter and the Thistle; and the certificates of gentility and declarations of noblesse by which the Stuart kings attested the birth and descent of their subjects abroad. Certificates are entered by family, so that a line’s proofs may be read together, and a chronological calendar sets the whole series in order. With Volume I, it gives a complete account of the Stuart fount of honour in exile.
